Road Win Lifts West Michigan to 3-2 Lead in R2
Cedar Rapids Kernels manager Bobby Chouinard took a gamble on 22-year-old starter Brendan Simpson. It paid off, but, unfortunately for the Kernels, little else did.

Despite getting a poised performance from the young right-hander, the Kernels lost, 4-3, to the West Michigan Whitecaps at Veterans Memorial Stadium. With the win, West Michigan took a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 Round 2.

West Michigan used the timely hitting of Chris Gibson to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Whitecaps on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"What a great win for our team," said a jubilant Bo Porter, the West Michigan manager.

The next game is set to be played for Tuesday, September 22nd , 2026 at Fifth Third Ballpark in Grand Rapids.
