Flying Tigers March Over Yankees, 15-1
The Lakeland Flying Tigers knocked off the Tampa Yankees, 15-1, in Florida State League action at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Lakeland pitcher and Charlotte, North Carolina, native Shawn Major had an outstanding performance. Major, now 15-4, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing no runs. The first-place Flying Tigers, at 86-45, lead the FSL North by 17 games.

Lakeland used a well-timed hit by Sergio Jara to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Flying Tigers ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.

"You can't sugarcoat this one," said Tampa manager Eric Owens. "They smoked us."
