In a low-scoring contest between the St. Lucie Mets and the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 22-year old left-handed pitcher Monte Craig proved to be the difference. The St. Lucie left-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-1 Mets win. Kel Turner notched his 3rd save of the season. The win for the Mets lifted their record to 80-51.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Albert Vélez? The St. Lucie designated hitter had a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Mets on top, 1-0. For the game, Vélez had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Craig said.
