The Palm Beach Cardinals and Charlotte Stone Crabs completed their game despite the rain.
Behind the hitting of Chris Sweet, the Palm Beach Cardinals defeated the Charlotte Stone Crabs, 8-5. Sweet went 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Cardinals. Reliever Joe Evans picked up the win. His record improves to 2-1. José Ramírez took the loss. Monty Kirkland earned his 6th save in 10 chances.
With Palm Beach trailing 5-4 in the top of the ninth, Sweet hit a fastball from José Ramírez for a 3-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 7-5.
"Ah, the sweet taste of victory," Sweet crowed after the game.
Palm Beach is now 54-73. Charlotte is 62-64.
