Tortugas Need Extra Innings to Top Flying Tigers, 6-5
|
The Daytona Tortugas found a way to sneak past the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 6-5, in 10 innings. Daytona designated hitter Shawn Alomar, for one, had a standout performance. Daytona reliever Dave Hill snagged the win, upping his record to 3-3. José Cervantes shouldered the loss. The Daytona win streak is now 3 games.
The decisive blow was delivered by Jeff Stewart in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a solo home run off 22-year old left-handed pitcher José Cervantes to win the game for Daytona. The home crowd went nuts.
"We had a chance to win," said Lakeland manager Donald Lutz, "but we didn't get it done."
