Slumping Manatees Lose 8th Straight
The Clearwater Threshers beat the Brevard County Manatees, 7-4, with major props going to third baseman Jim Hawkins. On the day, Hawkins went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Threshers. The win went to José Ortíz in relief, making him now 2-1. Jeff Arrington took the loss for Brevard County. The Threshers improved their record to 50-44 by beating Brevard County.

Hawkins had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 2-2 slider from Jeff Arrington, he banged a grand slam home run to left, giving the Threshers a 7-4 lead. It was the 11th home run of the year for Hawkins.

"We bring energy to every game," said losing manager Jeremy Hernandez. "But it's got to translate into wins."
