|
The Charlotte Stone Crabs racked up a win at Space Coast Stadium, bumping off the Brevard County Manatees, 6-3. António Mercado, who started for Charlotte, pitched effectively for his team. In 6.1 innings, Mercado surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. With this game in the books, Charlotte is 24-28, Brevard County 14-38.
Charlotte used a well-timed hit by Hugh Webb to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Stone Crabs ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
In postgame comments to the Charlotte Gazette, Webb said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
