The Fort Myers Miracle rode a solid performance from 26-year-old starting pitcher Juan Garza to a win, beating the Jupiter Hammerheads, 5-1, at Hammond Stadium. In 6 innings, Garza surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3. He allowed no runs. The Miracle now have a record of 23-28 with the win over Jupiter.
The Miracle had to work out of trouble in the top of the sixth. The score was 5-0, Fort Myers, with two out. Jupiter, with the bases loaded, was mounting a threat. Jim McLaughlin dug in at the plate, but on a 1-2 slider, he struck out.
