The Brevard County Manatees were almost helpless in their 7-0 loss to the Clearwater Threshers and hurler Steve Ives. Ives kept the Manatees confused all game, spinning a 5-hit shutout.

"Tip your hat to Ives," Brevard County manager Allen Craig said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."

The 23-year-old left-hander had 2 walks and 5 strikeouts in a strong performance.

"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Ives said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
