The St. Lucie Mets bested the Palm Beach Cardinals, 5-4, at Tradition Field. Noel Owens was one of the standouts. He was 3-4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Luis Lucero was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Ánibal Valentín. Mitch Smith finished the game for St. Lucie and earned his 2nd save.
Had Owens not come through in the bottom of the eighth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Owens drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Mets took the lead, 5-4, and never looked back.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Palm Beach manager Irving Falu said, following the tough loss.
St. Lucie has run its win streak to 6 in a row.
