The St. Lucie Mets and starting pitcher Dave Mata stifled the Bradenton offense en route to a comfortable 8-2 win at Tradition Field. Mitch Smith finished the game for St. Lucie and earned his 1st save. The triumph puts St. Lucie at 17-17 for the season.

Steve Adams had a big grand slam home run for the Mets in the bottom of the first inning. With St. Lucie leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he sized up a fastball from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Jeff Lewis and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Mets on top, 5-0.

Said St. Lucie manager Jorge Hernandez: "Dave came into the game mentally strong. He dominated."
