The rain came, as predicted, but the Lakeland Flying Tigers and Palm Beach Cardinals were able to complete their ballgame.

The Palm Beach Cardinals were defeated, 4-1, by the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium, even though Bob Vaughn pitched well for Palm Beach. Jeff Smith snagged the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 2.1 innings. He's now 1-0 on the season.

Juan Ortega hit a 2-run double off Mike Lowery in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Flying Tigers in front, 3-1. In addition to the double, Ortega had 1 single, while going 2 for 3.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Ortega.

Lakeland, now 21-5, has played well in the early going.
