The Charlotte Stone Crabs beat the Brevard County Manatees, 8-5. Charlotte pitcher and Jacksonville, Florida, native Tim O'Neill led the way. The winner was O'Neill. He threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Rudy Lamb. Cliff Apsley closed it out for Charlotte, earning his 5th save.

Charlotte won the game in part because of Dan Jones. The catcher ripped a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Stone Crabs ahead, 6-0. For the game, Jones had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.

"I like our mindset right now," said Charlotte manager Brad Salmon.

For the Manatees, the loss makes them 6-14.
