Mets Slap 6-2 Loss on Cardinals
The St. Lucie Mets beat the Palm Beach Cardinals, 6-2, at Roger Dean Stadium. Bob Norwood starred for St. Lucie. He went 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs. Pancho Gutiérrez was the winning pitcher. Over 5.2 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, with 3 walks and 11 strikeouts. Picking up the save was 25-year old right-handed pitcher Chet Bass.

St. Lucie used a clutch at-bat from Matthieu Berruti to capture the win. The catcher hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Mets ahead, 4-2. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"It's not about individual awards," Berruti told a St. Lucie Citizen reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."

The Mets raised their record to 3-1.
