Tortugas Score Late to Upend Threshers, 5-2
|
The Daytona Tortugas beat the Clearwater Threshers, 5-2, at Bright House Field. Daytona designated hitter Lonnie Johnston had the hot bat. He was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while scoring 3 runs. Daytona is off to a hot start at 2-1.
Johnston had a game-changing double in the top of the ninth. On a 1-0 fastball from Jim Bailey, he banged a run-scoring double to center, giving the Tortugas a 3-2 lead. It was the 2nd double of the year for Johnston.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Daytona manager Mac Stewart.
