Pelicans Triumphant, 7-4, at Ed Smith Stadium
|
Spirited fans greeted the Lynchburg Hillcats for their clash with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans withstood an impressive performance by Lynchburg second baseman Juan Árias to defeat the Hillcats, 7-4, at Ed Smith Stadium. Árias was 2-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Dax Foster went 6.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits. The right-hander, who is tied for 6th in the CAR in wins with 10, struck out 3 and walked 1. With the win, he's now 10-10 this season. Augusto Balderas notched his 12th save in 16 chances.
Myrtle Beach used a timely hit from Jeff Markakis to get the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Pelicans ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.
In comments to the Myrtle Beach Observer, Markakis insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
Myrtle Beach goes to 56-82, Lynchburg to 61-77.
