The Salem Red Sox withstood an impressive performance by Lynchburg right fielder Sean Hartman to defeat the Hillcats, 7-6, at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Hartman went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Salem reliever Bobby Louque picked up the win, upping his record to 6-5. Jon Kline took the loss. After today's action, Salem sits at 48-77; Lynchburg slips to 51-74.

Jim Unknown helped out the Salem cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the designated hitter was 2-2 with a double.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Lynchburg manager Nick Markakis. "But we decided not to take it."
