In a low-scoring contest between the Frederick Keys and the Lynchburg Hillcats, Jimmy Duncan was the X factor. The Frederick right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. Frederick reliever Jimmy Duncan got the win, raising his record to 3-1. Doug Bratcher was tagged with the loss. Jeff O'Brian converted his 7th save in 9 tries.

Chuck Ward drew 1 walk for Frederick. The 26-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Doug Bratcher. It was his 42nd RBI of the season.
