Carolina wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Víctor Franco, falling to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, 3-2. Franco threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Myrtle Beach reliever Tim Bradford picked up the win to move to 2-3. Johnny Wilson suffered the loss. Earning the save was Virgil Peterson. He's now cashed in 35 of 39 save opportunities.

Joe Taylor broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth with a run-scoring single. It put the Pelicans in front, 3-2. For the game, Taylor was 1-4.

"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Myrtle Beach manager Jose Lobaton.

With the victory, the Pelicans upped their record to 63-52.
