Jim Matthews never let the Red Sox get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his changeup, to pitch the Nationals to a win, 2-1. Potomac reliever Sergio Fernández, who is tied for 3rd in the CAR in saves with 16, was credited with the win. His record goes to 6-4. José Ruíz took the loss for Salem. The loss makes Salem 46-53.

The decisive blow was delivered by Jesús Pérez in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 22-year old right-handed pitcher José Ruíz to win the game for Potomac. The home crowd went nuts.

"Jim is a gamer," said Potomac manager Cesar Martin.
