Myrtle Beach beat Winston-Salem in a rain-soaked ballgame.

Winston-Salem got a terrific game from shortstop Jarred Pierson. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Myrtle Beach, 12-11. Pierson went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. The second-place Pelicans have won 4 in a row.

Mike Hickman delivered a big hit for Myrtle Beach. The catcher drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Pelicans ahead, 12-11. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.

"Ugly win or not, we'll take it," said Hickman.
