Red Sox Drop Another One, 7-3
|
The Carolina Mudcats beat the Salem Red Sox, 7-3, at Grainger Stadium. The win was due in part to right fielder Greg Reyes, who was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 doubles, while adding 6 RBI and scoring once. Sergio Martínez claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3.2 innings. His record stands at 3-0. The Red Sox, now 33-60, have lost 5 straight.
Reyes had a game-changing double in the bottom of the sixth. On a first pitch cutter from Gene Cross, he banged a 2-run double to left, giving the Mudcats a 5-3 lead. It was the 24th double of the year for Reyes.
"Being in first place now is good," said Reyes. "Being in first at the end of the season is better. That's our goal."
