9-8 Salem Loss Tarnishes Lockyer's Fine Effort
Ethan Lockyer had a good game, but he could not keep the Salem Red Sox from falling, 9-8, to the Potomac Nationals at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. The Salem left fielder hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 6 in the loss. Potomac reliever Steve McGuffie picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Raúl Longoria was saddled with the loss. Sergio Fernández earned his 12th save in 14 chances.

The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Daniel Michel came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Salem pitcher David De La Rosa, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Potomac on top, 6-5.

"Being able to play a game for a living is one thing. Being able to play it well and contribute to a win is even better," Michel told the Potomac Observer.

The Nationals improved their record to 33-47 by beating Salem.
