Simmons Excels, But Nationals Win
Shawn Simmons did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Carolina Mudcats from being beaten, 16-13, to the Potomac Nationals at Grainger Stadium. Simmons was 3 for 5 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 runs and drove in 6. Jeremy Hansen was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 6 of 8 save opportunities. Potomac goes to 34-40, Carolina to 48-25.

Eric Edwards helped out the Potomac cause in the top of the third inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the third baseman went 2 for 5 with 2 singles and a walk.

Carolina manager John Cornely said he was disappointed with the loss. "Whenever you score that many runs, you expect to win the game."
