Spirited fans greeted the Lynchburg Hillcats for their clash with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
Benefiting from Israel Menéndez's productive game, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans downed the Lynchburg Hillcats, 10-5. Menéndez went 4-4 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Pelicans. Myrtle Beach reliever Charlie Best was credited with the win. His record goes to 2-0. Doug Shelton took the loss for Lynchburg.
Mario Guerra drove in one run for Myrtle Beach. The 22-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Doug Shelton. It was his 13th RBI of the season.
"We'll grab a cold beverage tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Guerra said.
The victory puts Myrtle Beach at 19-32.
