Red Sox Handle Potomac, Snag 3-1 Win
|
The performance of Johnathan Simpson proved critical in helping Salem beat Potomac, 3-1. The Red Sox shortstop was 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. The win went to Ed Scott in relief, making him now 3-0. Víctor Hernández took the loss for Potomac. By defeating Potomac, the last-place Red Sox improved to 16-21.
Ron Lindsey had a big 2-run home run for the Red Sox in the bottom of the third inning. With Salem leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a curveball from 22-year old left-handed pitcher Víctor Hernández and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Red Sox on top, 3-0.
"It's not about individual awards," Lindsey told a Salem Observer reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."
