The Carolina Mudcats did just enough to nip the Wilmington Blue Rocks, 8-7, in 13 innings. Carolina pitcher Don Stephens, in particular, had a standout performance. The second-place Blue Rocks have lost 5 consecutive games.

The Mudcats got a clutch hit from left fielder Noel Alexander. In the bottom of the 13th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Mudcats.
