6-4 Win for Carolina Over Salem
Despite a great performance by Salem first baseman Nate Martin, the Carolina Mudcats defeated the Red Sox by the score of 6-4 at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Martin was 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Dave Norwood was the winner. Over 7 innings, he yielded 4 runs on 9 hits, with 5 walks and 3 strikeouts. Earning his 7th save for Carolina was Rudy Thomas.

Carolina won the game in part because of Jerry King. The designated hitter ripped a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Mudcats ahead, 4-3. For the game, King had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.

"Glad to go home with a win," said King.

The win hiked the Carolina record to 20-13.
