The Wilmington Blue Rocks picked up a win at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium, knocking off the Winston-Salem Dash, 5-3. Starting pitcher Clarence Howell was a big reason why. Picking up the save was 25-year old right-handed pitcher César García. The victory makes Wilmington 16-8, as the team seeks a return to the playoffs in 2026.
Had Chris Huggins not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Huggins hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Blue Rocks.
"The only difference is executing pitches and not executing pitches," said Howell. "When you don't execute, you get beat. When you execute, you usually give your team a chance to win."
