Pelicans Tuck Away 3-2 Win Over Salem
|
The Salem Red Sox could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Kevin Fitzpatrick into a win. Instead, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans prevailed, 3-2. Fitzpatrick threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball. Víctor Trujillo got the win, improving to 3-1. He worked 8 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 3. Picking up his 6th save was 21-year old left-handed pitcher Rinaldo Saro.
Myrtle Beach needed the clutch hitting of Ron Crotty to seal the deal. The first baseman swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Pelicans on top, 3-0. For the game, Crotty had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Myrtle Beach manager Jose Lobaton said.
The Red Sox fall to 9-13 and continue their sputtering start to the 2025 season.
