Winston-Salem picked up a win at New Winston-Salem Ballpark, bumping off the Salem Red Sox, 4-3. Pitcher Pat Poe was a major reason the Dash emerged victorious. Poe went the distance for Winston-Salem. He gave up 3 runs on 8 hits. The loss drops Salem to 5-4.

The decisive blow was delivered by Vince Cleveland in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 20-year old right-handed pitcher Guglielmo Martini to win the game for Winston-Salem. The home crowd went nuts.

Cleveland attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."
