The Wilmington Blue Rocks, despite a fine performance by Myrtle Beach pitcher Jerry Jennings, grabbed a 3-1 win at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. Jennings allowed 1 run over 6.2 innings. The winner in relief was Vince Lyons. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 4 innings. After losing, Myrtle Beach is 2-1.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the tenth, with the game tied, Tim Allen was at the plate when Wilmington scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Blue Rocks to go in front, 2-1.
"Makes our job easier," said Allen, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
