Stockton second baseman Ben Malone had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 10-6, to Bakersfield at Banner Island Ballpark. Malone went 4-6 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs. The last-place Ports dropped to 53-77.

Bakersfield used the clutch hitting of Ken Erickson to snag the win. The shortstop drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Blaze ahead, 9-4. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.

"Nice to tuck this win away," said Erickson.
