The Modesto Nuts knocked off the Visalia Rawhide, 12-5, at Recreation Park. Jorge Román was a big reason Modesto won. The shortstop was 3-5 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs. Mike Sanford, now 4-2, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 4.1 innings. Modesto goes to 68-57, Visalia to 58-67.

Ed Alston hit a 2-run double off Jeff Ayers in the top of the fourth, which put the Nuts in front, 5-4. In addition to the double, Alston had 1 single, while going 2 for 5.

In comments to the Modesto Times, Román insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
