Pitcher Jamal Haley was rock solid in helping the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes beat the San Jose Giants, 4-1. In 7.1 innings, Haley surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. Ken Smith was credited with the save for Rancho Cucamonga, his 15th of the season.

The Giants had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Quakes going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old right fielder Sergio Sánchez came to the plate. Sánchez hit a 2-run triple on a 1-2 sinker from San Jose hurler Enrico Ramírez. It was Sánchez's 1st triple of the year.

"For the most part, I didn't think they knew what was coming," said Haley.

The win for the Quakes lifted their record to 61-58.
