Fans watched the Modesto Nuts and the Bakersfield Blaze fight to the finish.

Billy Davies did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to spare the Bakersfield Blaze an extra-inning, 8-7 loss to the Modesto Nuts at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. Davies went 1-4 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Kel Clark snagged the win in relief. He goes to 2-7 on the season. Chad Payling suffered the loss.

The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Tex Rogers came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Bakersfield pitcher Chad Payling, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Modesto on top, 8-7.

"Our team found a way to get it done," said Rogers.

The first-place Nuts have a record of 56-43.
