Mike Saul did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Visalia Rawhide from being beaten, 7-6, to the Bakersfield Blaze at Recreation Park. Saul was 2 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner in relief was Dave Davis. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. The Blaze, at 62-36, have now won 4 straight.

Dax Russell came through with a big-time hit for Bakersfield. The shortstop smacked a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 7-6. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Bakersfield manager Joe McEwing.
