The Inland Empire 66ers took High Desert pitcher Steve Hankins's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Stater Bros. Stadium. The final score had Inland Empire getting past the Mavericks, 2-1. Hankins went 5 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 5. Inland Empire reliever Jim Bentley picked up the win, raising his record to 3-0. Eric Hall was tagged with the loss. Chris Walsh was credited with the save, his 2nd in 2 tries.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Trevor Kirkham? The 22-year old first baseman Kirkham stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put Inland Empire up, 2-1. For the game, he was 4 for 5, including 1 double and 3 singles.
