Recreation Park was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.

Jeff Ayers brought his A-game to help Visalia defeat the Inland Empire 66ers, 2-1. Ayers got the win, improving to 6-6. He gave up 4 hits and walked 1 over 5.2 innings. He allowed no runs.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Rawhide had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when shortstop Jonathan Goodman hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Tommy Steward and made the score 2-0, Rawhide. Goodman went 1-3.

"It's a mindset," said Ayers. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."

With the win over Inland Empire, the Rawhide improved to 39-46.
