Blaze Earn Win with Late Rally
The Bakersfield Blaze spoiled a good performance by Visalia left fielder Ron Porter, bumping off Visalia, 5-4, at Recreation Park. Porter was 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Picking up the win was Ken Day. He went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits. The right--hander struck out 10 and walked 1. Getting the save was Chad Payling, his 17th.

Bakersfield took a 4-2 lead on Gerald Phillipson's 7th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Phillipson hit in the top of the eighth, left Visalia pitcher Luis Valdés visibly frustrated.

"What's not to like about a win?" said Phillipson.

Bakersfield is now 33-33, Visalia 28-38.
