The Bakersfield Blaze picked up a win at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark, taking down the San Jose Giants, 3-2. Starting pitcher Ken Day was a big reason why. Chad Payling wrapped it up, recording his 14th save. The third-place Blaze hiked their record to 29-32.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Blaze had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when left fielder Juan Chávez hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Juan Pérez and made the score 3-2, Blaze. Chávez was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Bakersfield manager Joe McEwing.
