Modesto Loss Tarnishes Fine Game by Miller
Modesto first baseman Joe Miller had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Miller was 3-4 with 2 home runs and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 and driving in 3, even as San Jose beat the Nuts, 17-13. San Jose is 31-25 and Modesto, with the loss, 32-24.

San Jose second baseman Conan Jenkins contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a curveball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 47th hit of the season and put the Giants ahead, 5-3.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Jenkins.
