Ports Capture Close Win
The Stockton Ports beat the San Jose Giants, 5-4, at San Jose Municipal Stadium. The Ports got a fine performance from shortstop Ben Malone, who was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Juan Sánchez came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record now stands at 2-3. Stockton, with the win, climbs to 15-38.

Stockton used the timely hitting of Mario Román to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Ports on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Nice to get this one," said Malone. "Wins have been hard to come by."
