Blaze Rally to Nose Past San Jose
The Bakersfield Blaze besoiled an otherwise fine performance by San Jose left fielder Jorge Díaz by beating the Giants, 8-7, at San Jose Municipal Stadium. Díaz was 5 for 6 with a home run, 2 doubles, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Bakersfield reliever Stefan Theodorakis was the winner. His record is now 4-3. The losing pitcher was Hal Powell. The Blaze bumped their record to 26-26 with this win.

Bakersfield took advantage of an error in the top of the 12th inning. The game was tied, 7-7, when Ed Green hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Blaze in front, 8-7.

"Games like this one keep the antacid makers in business," quipped San Jose manager Steve Liddle.
