Drooping Storm Lose 6th Straight
|
Modesto got an elite performance from starting pitcher Cristóbal Mercado in securing a 2-1 decision over the Lake Elsinore Storm. The winner was Mercado. He threw 8.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was Luis Maldonado. The losing streak for Lake Elsinore has now reached 6 games.
Had Bob Edmonds not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Edmonds hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Nuts.
"Cristóbal was exceptional and he pitched with a purpose," said Modesto manager Doug Dascenzo.
