The San Jose Giants topped the Inland Empire 66ers, 5-3, in California League action at San Manuel Stadium. The standout performance belonged to San Jose pitcher and Santa Ynez, California, native Bob Whitney. San Jose has an impressive 31-15 record.

San Jose used a timely hit from Greg Hunt to get the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the 11th inning to put the Giants ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a difference-maker.

San Jose manager Jake Arrieta commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
