Modesto picked up a win at San Manuel Stadium, bumping off the Inland Empire 66ers, 7-5. Pitcher Steve Nelson was a major reason the Nuts emerged victorious. The winning pitcher was Nelson, now 1-0. He tossed 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 2. With the victory, the Nuts upped their record to 24-21.

Modesto catcher Steve Rice helped his team get ahead early. In the top of the first, with the bases loaded, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run.

"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Rice told the Modesto Times.
