6-4 Loss Extends Stockton Skid
|
The Visalia Rawhide withstood an impressive performance by Stockton center fielder Max Owens to defeat the Ports, 6-4, at Recreation Park. Owens went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Dave Hensley picked up the save, his 9th. Stockton, at 12-30, has lost 7 straight.
José Gómez had a big run-scoring double for the Rawhide in the bottom of the first inning. With Visalia leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a changeup from Steve Russell, who is tied for 8th in the CAL in innings pitched with 54.2, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 8th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Rawhide ahead, 2-0.
"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Gómez told the Visalia News. "But we take nothing for granted."
