Dedicated fans weathered the storm to watch their beloved Quakes beat the Mavericks.

Rancho Cucamonga got a strong outing from Joe Groves as the Quakes defeated the High Desert Mavericks, 3-0, at LoanMart Field. Groves, the winner, moves to 4-4. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks. Walt West picked up the save for Rancho Cucamonga, his 4th of the year.

Making an impact for Rancho Cucamonga was center fielder Butch Patterson. He drilled a triple off Enrico Flores in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, Patterson was 2 for 4 with a triple.

"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Groves said.

Rancho Cucamonga is now 19-22, while High Desert is 20-21.
