The San Jose Giants beat the Bakersfield Blaze, 6-4, at San Jose Municipal Stadium. San Jose center fielder Josh Ford had an outstanding performance. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The win went to Dan Groves in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Jimmy Smith took the loss. Hal Powell closed out the game, earning his 3rd save.

Had Luis Lozano not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Lozano hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Giants.

"We ground out the win," said Lozano. "That's all that matters."

The win gives the Giants a record of 7-9.
