The San Jose Giants stopped the High Desert Mavericks, 14-5, behind an impressive performance from Jerry Wood. The 22-year old center fielder made life miserable for High Desert pitching. He hit 3 home runs. He drove in 7 runs and scored three times. The winning pitcher was Mike Thompson. He tossed 106 pitches over 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits. Joe Campbell recorded his 1st save for San Jose.

"The key is not trying to do too much," said Wood.
